Abstract:

With the growing global burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), evidence-based and scientifically grounded exercise interventions have emerged as a key strategy for improving patients' quality of life. The Exercise Prescription Guidelines for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (hereafter referred to as the guideline) was jointly developed by China Sport Science Society, National Institute of Sports Medicine, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, and Beijing Sport University, with the aim of providing evidence-based recommendations for exercise prescription in patients with COPD. The guideline systematically outlines pre-exercise screening and assessment, principles of exercise prescription, recommendations for different exercise modalities, identification and risk management of adverse events during exercise interventions, and telerehabilitation strategies for patients with COPD. Based on systematic reviews and meta-analyses, a total of 22 recommendations are proposed, covering aerobic exercise, resistance training, inspiratory muscle training, and resonance breathing. These exercise prescriptions and recommendations have been demonstrated to significantly improve dyspnea, pulmonary function, cardiorespiratory fitness, and quality of life in patients with COPD, while highlighting the importance of safety and individualized interventions. The development and implementation of this guideline are expected to promote the standardization and optimization of exercise-based interventions for COPD and provide more scientific and effective rehabilitation strategies for patients.
